Whitsun

We are getting a lot of enquiries for the Whitsun weekend and I a very sorry to have to say but we are up to our numbers. We do always get some cancellations, we had three yesterday, so there is chance that you might be able to get a pitch but it is not a certainty and I have a waiting list. We do find that, particularly for Whitsun, we book up earlier and earlier. We have pitches available this weekend and leading up to the holiday and again from Monday 26th. Why not come this weekend and beat the crowds? The site is looking peachy :)

Important dates for your diaries!

There are a few dates this year when we have events going on at Fforest Fields. Firstly, Hundred House Show, always the first Saturday in September, so the 6th this year. A wonderful day out and fun for all as many of our visitors who come back year after year can vouch.

The following weekend, 13th and 14th of September, we host the Homegrown Festival http://www.homegrownfestival.com/ I am afraid that the site is closed that weekend to visitors who are not coming to the Festival. We had over 600 camping when it was last held with us!

The weekend after that, the 19th and 20th of September, we are hosting a mountain bike event, called Edge of Night, the mad fools ride for 12 hours round and round and round a horrid course, up and down the hills. You can see more information at www.g2Revolver.com.
We then have a weekend off!!

The FOLLOWING weekend, the first in October, 4th and 5th the campsite is closed for a WEDDING, some of you might know that my lovely Will and his super a-fiance, Natalie are getting married that weekend.

If you want to come and join the fun you are most welcome, although you will have to buy weekend tickets for the Homegrown via their website. I am sorry but we are shutting the site for the 4th Octber - I am NOT allowing George to clean loos on his son’s wedding day ;):)
We will be open again straight after, unless things change!

The good.........and the not so good.

We had this lovely email this morning……

“I don’t usually feel moved to write to campsite owners, but we have just spent one of the best weekends in Fforest Fields and would like to thank you for all your hard work in creating a perfect site: everything is so orderly in a relaxed way and you seem to manage to keep smiling despite the drain drama! We have told lots of friends about the site already and hope to be back soon to enjoy some more roasting hot Welsh sun!!!
Thanks, Lucy and family.” What a joy to receive, thank you Lucy and family for taking the time to write and say how much you had enjoyed your stay.

And the bad…….. someone had taken the Air Ambulance tin  The first time ever……. b>:XXs

So you think you'd like to run a campsite??!!

Yesterday, for almost the first time EVER, certainly on a bank holiday weekend, George and I accepted an invitation to lunch. It is not a normal event, and this was not just a normal lunch. Smart suits and dresses were the order of the day.
So there we were, dressed to the nines and about to set off, leaving Will and Nat in charge of a peaceful and happy campsite…….phone call “George do you know there is ’something’ coming out of the manhole near the chemical disposal??” “WHAT!! >:XX what - there CAN’T be we have just had it emptied” “well there is - XX( and all” !!
You can just imaging the swearing that went on - I won’t delve too deep into what had happened, you REALLY don’t want to know - just suffice to say, wonderful Will took full charge assisted by Ken and Nat. They said ‘go - go’ and we left Will rodding the blocked pipes. Amazingly we were only ten minutes late for our lunch party causing much merriment when we said just WHY we were late.
I just want to say THANK YOU to Will, Nat and Ken and also the Chambers family who, with absolutely no fuss moved their caravan and awning to another pitch. Thank you guys - the lunch was delicious!!

What a lovely day - 'bout time too!

It’s been lovely here today; it’s looked like it was going to rain a couple of times and we’ve had spits and spots but it’s stayed clear. It’s getting a bit chilly now though, sun still shining brightly into my office. Fingers tightly crossed for a good weekend. It sounds as if it is at least going to be warmer.

Bluebells, violets and swallows!

For the first time yesterday I saw all three! The bluebells in the wood are just starting to come out, they are much later than last year, and only the brave few is sheltered spots are showing. The violets are the same, a few, at the bottom of the wood, are showing. Every year I say that I must pick some and do them in egg white and sugar - this year I WILL!! As I rode round the long lake yesterday swallows were dipping and flying back and forwards. We only had two Canada geese to chase off, a great improvement on the 20 to 30 in the winter, perhaps they are getting the message!
Having said that we were going to have pouring rain, if you now look at the latest forecast (linked above)it’s not looking so bad. Light rain is often showers and it is going to be much warmer by Saturday -

Nice words!

Although it has been cold and wet and pretty miserable in mid Wales at the start of this season, we have had some lovely people staying. Here is a thank you from Sandy and Peter who were with us last week.

“Just a word of thanks to you all for the wonderful hospitality bestowed on us two ” re-cycled teenagers. The eggs were yummy the bacon was scrummy now you should see the size of our tummies ( well maybe not ) We, Peter and myself wish you all a good summer season, if we have the time we shall try to come back to you later in the year….. One thing I really would like to say is I have spent many holidays in Guernsey lived there for a couple of years and my own personal thoughts of that lovely holiday island………

” If God made heaven on earth He made Guernsey first” now I can add and He made Fforest Fields next”

Again many thanks,

Sandy and Peter, the re-cycled teenagers aged 63 & 64

We just look forward to seeing them again!

Swallows....well one!

George has just come back from the campsite and reports that there is one, cold and rather surprised Fforest swallow flying about. I know, perhaps they are not Fforest swallows, but we like to think of them as ours! The first sighting this year, is it early? I can’t remember, I’m sure that someone will tell me ;)

Wonderful pictures!

I have a wonderful friend from America who sends me a constant supply of jokes and funny emails; the one this morning was the winners of the National Georgraphic photographic competition. There are about 20 amazing pictures but this one made me laugh out loud!!
